Challenge Day #3
What If? (headline yesterday)
**These challenges are designed to make us think about the 'WHAT IF' and to see if we are prepared!
Hurricane Isaac: Utilities Report Thousands Still In The Dark Across Louisiana And Mississippi
NEW ORLEANS — Tens of thousands of customers remained in the dark Monday in Louisiana and Mississippi, nearly a week after Isaac inundated the Gulf Coast with a deluge that still has some low-lying areas under water.
Most of those were in Louisiana, where utilities reported more than 100,000 people without power. Thousands also were without power in Mississippi and Arkansas.
In Louisiana, many evacuees remained at shelters or bunked with friends or relatives.
"My family is split up," said Angela Serpas, from severely flooded Braithwaite in Plaquemines Parish. Serpas and her daughter were staying with her in-laws while her husband and son were staying in Belle Chasse, a suburban area of the parish.
"This is the second time we've lost our home. We lost it in Katrina," she said....
Challenge Day #3:
Any guesses?
Your Power has been out for days. You have been getting along by making
quick and easy meals from your food storage. Your families spirits are getting low! You remember –Today is your anniversary/or child’s birthday
(any occasion –you pick it). You are the rock in the family and you
know that you need to pull off
cooking one of your families favorite meals – WITHOUT power!
(remember you now
have water).
Goal: Practice powerless
cooking skills and living without power
Task and limitations:
1-Cook a fancy meal for
your family for dinner tonight. (pictures would be awesome)
2-Make a dessert to go
along with the dinner – using no electric power
3-Entertain your family or
yourself after dark with No electricity for 1 hour– No tv, no lights, no video games! *** I know your
kids might die! I think we can
risk it!

Day 3
Day 3
NOTES:
Questions to ask yourself and your family:
· What methods do you have to cook
without power?
· How much fuel do you have stored
and how long will it last?
· What are some things you can do to
conserve fuel?
· What can you store to provide
normalcy and comfort to your family in an extended
powerless emergency?
· What’s your plan for light ,
warmth, and cooling in a powerless situation?
****FYI
- You can also leave comments on the blog. You can leave your notes, things that worked , any ideas to
help us all learn how to better prepare!
I do have a picture in my phone if you know how to transfer it. A simple meal. Thank goodness for a gas range. A delish noodle meal fit for the three of us. Dessert was a bowl of peaches for me. No fun and games with college students studying, but I went out and walked. It was needed and good for the heart. After all, I need to be healthy if I'm going to confront a disaster, RIGHT?
