Bee Anxiously Engaged!!

Wendy Hanks' gave an amazing lesson on Sunday. It was based on a conference talk,

Elder M. Russell Ballard….”BE ANXIOUSLY ENGAGED”
There are so many great sound bites in the talk, that I asked her to send it to me.  If only we, as woman, individually, would remember that we matter.  That our contribution to this community, to our ward family and to the work of the Gospel, is needed, if not required.  I love the quote by Ardeth Kapp- she said,  “One woman…is helpful; ten women are influential; one hundred women are powerful, and one thousand are invincible.”   Elder Ballard's talk likens women of the church to the honey bees of a beehive.

Did you know that Women do all the work in the hive? All of the bees that pollinate, collect nectar from flowers, and make honey are girls. I did not know that!  But I am not surprised. With that in mind Wendy challenged  us as ward sisters (keeping in mind the honeybees) to accept the following theme for  the 2013 Wasatch 5th Ward Relief Society:

(Alma 37:6-7)  ”That by Small and Simple Things are great things brought to pass…”

That simple practice is: In your morning prayer each new day, ask Heavenly Father to guide you to recognize an opportunity to serve one of His precious children. Then go throughout the day with your heart full of faith and love, looking for someone to help. Stay focused, just like the honeybees focus on the flowers from which to gather nectar and pollen. If you do this, your spiritual sensitivities will be enlarged and you will discover opportunities to serve that you never before realized were possible.

And President Spencer W. Kimball said: “God does notice us, and he watches over us. But it is usually through another person that he meets our needs. Therefore, it is vital that we serve each other” (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Spencer W. Kimball [2006], 82).
Honestly, I loved the lesson, but after I left, I felt a little overwhelmed...I mean my life is so crazy, I don't have time for my own issues, much less helping someone else!  But of course the Spirit told me not only did I have time to help others, but that service is the prescription for getting my own life in order!
Sweet!

  1. This lesson was a great one. I'm grateful for the recap. We are so fortunate to have each other and work so well with each. I'm wondering what would have happened to me if the special worker bees weren't there to build me up when I was down. Thank you for making me feel so welcome in the hive. Love you all. Deb
